To me the bicycle and the act of riding it through whatever society, countryside or forest has always led me into encounters with people and their stories.
The experience of meeting a stranger when cycling and having a chat, a cup of tea or just a good laugh is to me a very fundamental expression of life itself.
Some people say that humans are very different based on where on this earth they live. That is not my impression of the world. I have with the bicycle as instrument observed that there are way more things that binds us humans together than those who make us different. Laughter, tears, sorrow and curiosity are all expressions of human life no matter where on this earth you find it. So if you are narrow minded and believe there are differences between people based on their geographical backgrounds… go for a ride across any continent or even just your own neighbourhood. Sitting on a bicycle, no matter if its to cross continents or your distance to work will cultivate randomness, encounters with strangers and open your mind in ways you never could imagine.
And for this… I ride. For this vast and ever changing reality called life I ride my bicycle to feel connected. To feel the joy of giving a smile to a stranger and sharing a moment on our traverse through space and existence.
Below are a few of the many photos I have taken of people who I have met when riding a bicycle. Every picture in this gallery is a direct product of the freedom and randomness that comes with cycling.
Have a look and try it for yourself. Walk out your front door, mount your bicycle and ride with a smile. You will not only support your own health and freedom but also your local community… by being one less car out there and by being one more social human being spreading smiles and taking part in this grand adventure called life on our planet.
